Ok, now that you’re probably already writing blogs, you’ll consider this a silly question.
I’ll bet half of you reading this don’t know what exactly blogging is!
(that’s why you’re here, anyway)
Well, a textbook definition of blogging will be to write and manage blogs. But wait, is that all? You write something, post it on your blog and voila! You’re a blogger? Isn’t it this easy?
Sorry to spoil your mood but THIS is not blogging! This is just writing and posting on a blog. Any kid giving a pen and paper will write stuff and if you tell them, they’ll get it on the internet! No but every kid who does this is not a blogger!
While writing good posts is definitely the most crucial ingredient for your blog to succeed, It’s not the ONLY ingredient! It’s just the bread in the cheese sandwich. What about the cheese?
The cheese is the audience you can attract! And let me be honest, if you write good, your audience will stay with you BUT you’ll NOT get more audience. Why?
Because you need to engage with them. No, not engage 💍 but engage 👫.
You need to attract audience. And how do you do that? Forget SEO (It’s not getting you anywhere for now), you need to visit their blogs, check them out on social media and even comment on their blogs! No rocket science and no launching 104 satellites in a go (congratulations ISRO!!)
So how to engage?
If you’re on WordPress.com, you must look for the community pool and the first Friday challenges. There, even if you don’t have your own post to share, you should try to help at least 3 fellow bloggers. That’s visiting their blog and leaving helpful comments.
That makes it 6 new blogs visited every week.
Next, ensure you know your followers. Visit their blogs and comment, follow if it interests you and then check out their posts regularly and leave a comment.
Every time you leave a comment somewhere, you’re leaving a door to your blog(when they click on your name, they’ll reach your blog or a site you’ve linked to). That’s a lot of links to your new blog!
Next, when others comment on your site, reply! Even if it’s just a thank you, you should say that there and then. You should also visit their blog if they’re new. Maybe, you’ll end up having another blog in your reading list!
So that’s what blogging is all about.
It’s like a business. You must keep healthy relationships with all your clients to do successful business. Only making good products doesn’t work, you’ve to advertise it well as well!
